Organiser's Comments

I would like to thank all those who turned out for this event, Ian Stokes for helping at registration and collecting controls at the end and Zoë Griffin (GRAMP) for her help and comments on thecourses.

I wasn’t sure how well I had done in planning courses which would offer enough of a challenge on an area that is relatively small. However, after talking to a number of the people after they had finished I can only say thank you for all the positive comments. It appears that the courses were about right.

The short course was aimed at relative beginners with all the controls close to or clearly visible from line features, although some of the girls from Kilgraston had some problems with a couple of the controls. Something that I will bear in mind for the future (assuming I’m asked again!)

The medium course aimed to give enough of a challenge for more experienced orienteers. Where I think it failed slightly was along the north side of the area with the long leg being quite easy while I could have used the woods to the south of the fields to give a better course. The same applies to the long course.

Those who completed the long course were also fairly complimentary about the course with only a couple of comments about the easy legs on the north side and also a repeat of one leg on the second map.

From these comments I feel the day went well. The times for the winners of all courses were about what I had expected, so overall I was pleased with the day, the numbers who turned out and of course the weather was fine after a heavy shower as I put out the last of the controls on Sunday morning.

Thanks again,

David Williamson
