Organiser's Comment

Creag Vinean has the reputation of being a tough orienteering venue and it more than lived up to it at Tuesday evening's final Summer Series event. A few of the controls proved distinctly elusive and some competitors discovered parts of the forest probably never trodden by man since the trees were planted. But everyone enjoyed the event, (or said they did), even if they were out for over two hours searching for what must have seemed the veritable needle in the haystack.

Abigail Williams certainly enjoyed the short course, winning it in a time of 46 mins. Nobody finished the medium course, but Richard Woodrow came close, only failing to find the fifth control.

Times on the long course illustrated how different orienteering areas can be, being two to three times longer than equivalent length courses at Camperdown. There was a tie for first place with Helen James and Allan Downie recording a time of 62 mins and David Williamson third in 65 mins. Of the less experienced orienteers, Sue Adams recorded an excellent 71 mins with Derek Loynds (93 mins), Roland Prentice (101 mins) and Gary Smith (107 mins) putting in good performances.

An Autumn Series is planned in August and September and details will appear in the Perthshire Advertiser or can be obtained from Dave Prentice (01738 583 345)
