Info

Thankyou to everyone who came along and supported the event - another well-attended TAY Christmas Score!

Unfortunately, there were some reports of runners using the main road as a route choice, but this was marked out of bounds on the map. No action has been taken, but if this was you, for future events, please observe overprinted Out-of-Bounds notfications (a line of Xs on the road). It's there for a good reason.

Location

Nearest town: Dunkeld

Pre event information

Extras!

As is traditional for our Christmas Score, there will be a Fancy Dress Competition, Quiz, Prizes, and a roving Santa and Magic Fairy for getting additional points.

More details will be revealed on the day, but we can reveal that the Fancy Dress theme will be Kings and Seats - so get preparing now!

Acknowledgements

Thanks are due to Hilton Dunkeld House Hotel and to Atholl Estates for permission to use their grounds.

Safety

There is a shooting range adjacent to the car parking area. This is strictly out of bounds. Fragments of clays may be found on paths adjacent to the shooting range. On no account should these or any other debris be picked up. Parents please warn children.

Off road vehicles may be using tracks in the event area. Please watch out for these.

There has been some tree felling on either side of the hotel back drive, leading to the N. exit. Please keep clear of log stacks and warn children not to climb on them.

The lawns immediately in front of the hotel and in the area of the tennis courts/time share lodges are out of bounds. Controls have been located to avoid these areas.

Some controls are located near the River Tay. The river level rises considerably after heavy rain. Please stay well back from the river bank and avoid indistinct paths close to the river edge.

Paths may be slippery due to ice, snow and wet leaves. Please take care.

Courses cross the main hotel drive and other minor roads within the hotel grounds. Please take extra care when crossing these.

Hotel grounds are used by hotel guests, walkers, runners and cyclists. Please respect other users of the area.

First Aid will be available at Registration. The nearest A&E hospital is Perth Royal Infirmary, PH1 1NX.

A full risk assessment has been carried out and warning notices and marshalls will be in place, but competitors are warned that they take part in the event at their own risk.

Directions / Parking

Competitors using the Perth Western by-pass, please be aware there are major road works on the A85 Crieff Road flyover (between Broxden Roundabout and Inveralmond Roundabout). Please allow for delays.

From A9 take turn-off for Dunkeld (A923). Continue through Dunkeld and at the northern end, the entrance to Dunkeld House Hotel drive is on the left, just after the public parking area.

Follow signs from main driveway of Dunkeld House Hotel. Regstration, start and finish will all be close together.

Public toilets are available in Dunkeld in the public car park at the north end of the village.

Facilities

Free hot showers will be available in the Arts Centre. Please bring your own towels and toiletries and leave dirty O shoes and wet kit outside the building. The Arts Centre is a charitable not-for-profit community organisation and donations are welcome. As a "thank you" for the free use of the showers, please consider making a contribution in the donations box in the main foyer.

Registration & Start Times

There may be limited entry on the day - registration will open at 1000, and will close shortly before the Mass Start.

There will be a Mass Start for each course:

Short Course - Start 1040
Long Course - Start 1045
SportIdent electronic punching will be used - if you don't have your own SI card, there will be some available to hire.

Course Information

There will be two Score courses: Long (time limit 60 minutes) and Short (time limit 45 minutes).

Explanation of Score courses

You don't have to visit all the controls! There is usually a time limit, instead of a set course. Points are scored for visiting controls, and deducted for finishing over the time limit. You decide which controls to visit, and in which sequence. Sometimes controls have different points values. You will need to carry a watch or phone, so you know how long you have been out.

Entry Details

We strongly encourage you to pre-enter using the O-Entries online entry site.

Entry fees are Seniors £7; (£2 supplement for non-members of British Orienteering) Juniors/Students £3.50;

The closing date for pre-entries is Sunday 1st December.

Contacts / Officials

Moira Laws (01738 828922), Elaine Gillies and TAY club members.

Safety and Risk

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event.

Keep It Clean campaign - Forestry Commission Scotland

Our forests are at risk from tree pests and diseases. These can dramatically affect the health of our trees, upsetting the delicate ecosystem balance and devastating large areas of woodland.
Pests and diseases hitch a ride in mud and debris on shoes, paws and tyres, ending up in new forests. Here, they can spread rapidly in environments with no natural resilience.
