Milnathort take first and third place!
At the South Area Chamionships at Lendrick Muir, near Crook of Devon, last week, there was a record turnout of 68 teams and record performances! The first five teams all beat last year's winning score, with the maximum 540 points being scored for the first time since the course was extended three years ago. Milnathort Primary's Team 1 came out on top, ahead of the Arctic Meerkats of Portmoak and Team 21 also of Milnathort. Congratulations to all teams who took part - the top 24 teams qualify for the final on May 21st at Scone Palace.
The third race in the 2014 Scottish Orienteering League series took place today at Dunrod Hill, tough moorland running on a spectacular location high above Greenock. Thankfully the early morning clouds disappeared, leading to a sunny day with superb views over the Firth of Clyde.
A small band of Tayside orienteers made the journey west, and the Nicoll family once again led the way with strong performances and top-10 placings on Blue course for Grahame, finishing 8th, and Laura 10th on Green. Other club placings were: David Sloan 22nd and Donald Smith 40th on Blue, Michael Pearson 18th on Short Blue, Moira Laws 14th and Anne Pearson 22nd on Short Green, Craig Sloan 14th on Orange, and Chris Pearson 9th on Yellow.
St Dominic's Primary lead the way
At the West Area Primary Schools Championships, held at Glenalmond College, and attracting 92 teams, it was an especially good day for St Dominic's Primary, Pitcairn Primary and The Community School of Auchterarder. The winners were the Oozema Kapp team from St Dominic's, with Pitcairn 1 as runners up and Pitcairn 6 in third. 7 Enchanted Cheetahs from Dunning were fourth, with TCSoA providing four teams in the top 10! Well done to all teams who took part - the top 34 teams qualify for the final on May 21st at Scone Palace.
Clean Sweep for Dunkeld!
Yesterday at a wet Dalguise, the North area championships of the 2014 Perth and Kinross Primary Schools Orienteering Championships was dominated by the Royal School of Dunkeld, who took the top four places. The winners were Dunkeld Dashers, followed by Zombies on the Run, 3 Amigos and Ginger Ninjas 2. The Crazy Coos from Breadalbane took 5th place. Congratulations to all teams and schools who took part - the top 17 teams qualify for the final on May 21st at Scone Palace.
Newhill's Four Musketeers for the win!
The first of the 2014 Perth and Kinross Primary Schools Orienteering Championships was staged at the Belmont Outdoor Centre by Meigle on Monday 31st March. Over 100 children competed in teams of three in excellent conditions for orienteering. The winning team was The Four Musketeers from Newhill, perhaps a fitting reward to Newhill for the help they provided in organising the event. Second was The Purple Puppy Dogs from Abernyte and third was Penguins from Alyth. Abernyte achieved the distinction of 100% of their teams qualifying for the final at Scone Palace, especially creditable as P5 pupils were included in the teams to make up numbers. Congratulations to all teams who took part - the top 15 teams qualify for the final on May 21st at Scone Palace.
Entries open for Culteuchar SoSOL event
Details are now available and entries now open for our next event, a South of Scotland Orienteering League event on Sunday May 18 at Culteuchar, in the Ochil hills south of Forgandenny. This promises to provide fast, open running on an area with (especially if the weather is good!) some of the best views in the South of Scotland.
The first race in this year's Scottish Orienteering League series took place yesterday in on of Central Scotland's best-known orienteering forests, Devilla Forest near Kincardine. Continuing their good start to the year, the best club results came from Grahame Nicoll (4th M55, 8th overall on the Blue course) and Laura Nicoll, 9th W16, 17th overall on the Green course.
The club was well represented at the Interlopers' INTrepid Weekend - a weekend of urban and mixed orienteering in Livingston, including a Scottish Urban Orienteering league race on the Saturday, and a South of Scotland Orienteering League Race on Sunday. Maybe it was an issue of scheduling, or maybe it's just orienteering preference - but none of the members who ran on Sunday went to the urban race - and vice versa!
Champions List from Tay's Perfect Perth Day Out
Congratulations to all our champions from the Scottish Sprint Championships and Scottish Night Championships 2014!
Congratulations to Davie F and Elaine G who finished 3rd (SuperVet Men) and 5th (Veteran Women) respectively in ESOC's annual Sprint championships at South Quennsferry yesterday. The event was held on a brand new area, a mix of urban and parkland; and consisted of two races - a Prologue to determine running order for the chasing start final. Good preparation for next weekend's series of races!
