Coaching session - 20/8/22

Craigvinean coaching

Good weather. Good Forest. Good time.

"Another very successful coaching session for TAY members on Saturday, with great input from our specialist coach, Hilary Quick.  The focus this time was on contours, and Craigvinean forest provided excellent terrain, full of suitable squiggly brown features, to practise on.  But first we had to investigate inverted V-shapes, bowls of muddy water, brown ticks - what had all these to do with contours?  Soon we were measuring the height of water levels against rocks , understanding how to tell a re-entrant from a spur, and making sense of form lines.  Then it was into terrain, testing our skills against a wide range of tightly packed, twisting contours.  Everyone agreed it had been a very useful session, with participants going away with a better understanding of how to 'read' and understand contours and use them as navigational aids.  Huge thanks to Hilary, the club coaches and volunteers for such a useful session.
Everyone is looking forward to next week's session, when the focus will be on re-location - how to cope with and avoid those 'headless chicken' moments!"
