Falling just short at the Compass Sport Trophy

A depleted Tayside Orienteers team travelled up to a beautifully sunny Aboyne yesterday, to take part in the Scottish round of the Compass Sport Trophy, at Balnagowan Forest. Unfortunately, despite a valiant effort, due to injury and unavailability we didn't have the coverage across all classes to challenge the strongest clubs, but there were some excellent individual performances which give us hope for next year!

The terrain was a mix of beautiful, runnable and complex pine forest, with some areas of windblow that severely impeded progress, and courses made full use of the area. A 1.5km walk to and from the start and finish gave us all plenty of opportunity to warm up and down afterwards.

Congratulations to MAROC, who won the Compass Sport Trophy round, and Interlopers who were runners up. Congratulations, too, to Forth Valley Orienteers, who won the Compass Sport Cup round for larger clubs; and good luck to all Scottish clubs in the UK final later this year.

Thanks to Club Captain Moira Laws for co-ordinating the team entry and for her encouragement!
