Report from Scot Sprint Champs 2024
Controller and Organiser
Organiser
We hope you all enjoyed the event on Sunday in a dry break in the weather.Congratulations to all our Champions.
Please note:Local walkers made us aware that they were concerned that some competitors showed a lack of awareness of other users of the area. All competitors need to remember that other users have as much right to be in the area as they do. This is particularly true for urban and park events.
One competitor who is new to Orienteering reported crossing an uncrossable fence. They have been marked as non-competitive and allocated the longest leg time for the particular leg.
Course Combinations for the Scottish Sprint and SOUL are not the same. Thank you to Robin Strain for getting the results into a suitable format for SOUL.
The event would not have happened without all the Event Officials, Tay helpers, Robin – thank you.
Permission to use the park and toilets were provided by PKC. The car park was provided by Morrison’s Academy.

Well done to Tayside Orienteers for staging a successful Scottish Sprint Championships. The two “ultrasprints” planned by Clive deviated slightly from the rules and guidelines (winning time 12-15 minutes) with single race times faster and combined times slower. The format did seem popular and made best use of the small area of parkland plus a few extensions into local streets and woods. I apologise to competitors on courses 1B and 4B for control 192 on the west bank of the river (crag bend). The map/control siting wasn’t quite perfect and a number of competitors lost time here – it was agreed that it did not affect the final race/medal positions so thank you for not submitting a formal protest. Control 200 was a hastily erected statue/sculpture/flag using some stakes and an Asda bag (other supermarkets are available). I felt that the TAY banner originally in place might be construed as the Finish. Maire (helped by the absent Allan Downie) did an excellent job organising the day and the loan of temporary toilets from Perth & Kinross Council made the event viable. Though the event guidelines available on the SOA website suggest course/class combinations align with the SOUL there seems to be an issue with some courses. Hopefully a suitable solution can be found (including Ranking points). Thank you everyone for your positive feedback.
