TAYSIDE Orienteering Club  TRAINING PLAN 2024

All events start at 7pm

TUESDAY APRIL 2

Online Orienteering Resources : A Zoom Training Session/Discussion.

While we await the arrival of the longer evenings, this session will explore what online resources are available to orienteers to look at courses & maps which will enable us to practise route choices, view courses, draw our own courses, etc. In particular, we’ll look at Routegadget and how to get the best from it.

TUESDAY APRIL 16

Online Training : A Zoom Training Session using o-Training Games

This session will use a number of training games to allow us to orienteer from the comfort of our own living rooms. We’ll do exercises from the hugely popular Lockdown Orienteering site which helped us keep in contact with our sport during the pandemic.

Introduction to Nordic Walking, Macrosty Park, Crieff

Postponed from last year, Fran will lead a practical workout introducing us the deceptively demanding discipline of Nordic Walking.

Social Run in Methven Woods

Repeated from 2023, this 4km evening run will go from Almondbank near Perth and will be timed to allow us to enjoy the bluebell display. Bring your camera!

MapRun in Perth

Jane has offered to do a Maprun Score in south west Perth later in the spring (many paths are unlit!).

Map Memory Session at Riverside, Perth

We’ll use some of the open areas and control sites used recently at Perth Riverside for a fiendishly difficult (maybe!) map memory training exercise.  Grant will organise this one.

Maprun in Crieff

Maire has offered to do a Maprun in Crieff again this year, after the successful one last year.

Social Run at Bertha Park

Again, repeated from last year, a social run around the Loch at Bertha Park, with lots of catch-up stops, some gradients and lovely terrain.

Kinnoull Hill Technical Training

Using maps from the 2022 Middle Distance event and permanent course controls, we’ll do a route-choice exercise in this popular woodland park on the outskirts of Perth.  Lesley has offered to organise this session.

Birnam Hill Social Run/Control Picking Session

An out-and-back social run, visiting some of the control sites on the lower part of Birnam Hill, used for the Compass Sport Trophy event earlier this year.  No steep hills involved!
