Tayside Orienteers at the Scottish Championships 2014

The Scottish Championships took its traditional place over the late May Bank Holiday weekend, and this year were held on TAY territory, with the individual race at Dalnamein, an area of forest and heather moorland beside the A9 north of Calvine, and the relay race at Newtyle Hill near Dunkeld. There were some excellent results from club members, including top-3 performances in the Individual race from Liz Fraser (2nd, W70S) and Fran Loots (3rd, W55L) and in the Relay race from Fran, Grant Carstairs and Elaine Gillies.

15 TAY members took part in the individual championships, and championship class results were:

  • M45S - David Anderson 5th
  • M60L - Grant Carstairs 4th
  • M65L - Michael Pearson 15th
  • W45L - Roos Eisma 16th, Jane Anderson 23rd
  • W55L - Fran Loots 3rd
  • W70L - Moira Laws 5th, Katharine Melville 6th
  • W70S - Liz Fraser 2nd

Several club members also competed on the colour coded courses:

  • Light Green - Elaine Gillies 3rd, Anne Pearson 9th, Seonag Robertson 10th, John Lewis 12th, Bill Melville 15th
  • Yellow - Christopher Pearson 2nd

TAY's Angela Dixon was the organiser of the Scottish Relay Championships at Newtyle, and the club assisted Edinburgh Southern OC in putting on the day's event. Despite the organisational efforts, TAY's  Manage A Trois team (Fran, Grant, Elaine) took a fantastic third place in the Handicap 20+ points class today, only a minute behind the winning team from Roxburgh Reivers. Well done also to TAY Pears - Emily, Anne and Michael Pearson - for successfully competing in the Handicap 17+ points class.

Thankyou to Angela and everyone who helped with the Relay event organisation, and congratulations to everyone who competed over the weekend!
