Tayside Halloween Event FINAL DETAILS

Tayside Orienteers Halloween Event

Final Details Macrosty Park Crieff Wednesday 29th Oct 2025 Registration opens from 6:30pm with starts at 7pm and 7:10pm

It will be dark so bring a head and/or a hand torch. Wear boots or running shoes with good grip as it could be slippy underfoot. This is helpful info for newcomers

There are two courses with mass starts for both. Everyone on the same course starts at the same time.

Long Course Odds and Evens (40 minutes time allowance) starts at 7pm.

The long course is an odds and evens event so start with odd numbered controls then once you switch to evens you cannot return to odds e.g if you visit controls 101,105, 109 and then 112 only even numbered controls will be valid after that.

Visit as many controls in the time available as you can odds then evens....

NB this is slightly different information to the earlier version

Short course - (30 minutes time allowance) - starts at 7:10pm
Visit as many controls in the time available as you can. Visit them in any order.

This is a fun SCORE event - the idea is to gain as many points as you can. The map has the control code marked on it. The last number lets you know the points value for that control so if the code is 171 then you will get 10 points for visiting that control, 175 will gain you 50 points. There is also a detailed description of the feature that the control is sited on on the map.

There are extra points for meeting a Witch or Ghost -

They will have an SI unit with them and you must ‘dib’ that unit to gain the points!
If you are in fancy dress then this also gains you extra points. These will be added on at the finish.

Bring a flask of soup or something hot for after and enjoy a spooky treat...

Course Information

Two courses - 40m and 30 minute. Both close at 7:40. There will be a point deduction for every minute or part of a minute you are over time.

Note extra points will be awarded for wearing a Halloween Fancy Dress item.

As usual, a witch and a ghost will be out to catch unwary runners. If you catch them, they will award extra points. Plug into their hand held Si-units.

Safety information

The short course does not cross any roads and is all within the park though there is a river - which is crossable at two points over a bridge.
The long course crosses the road that leads to the park. You can only cross the road at one point and must punch the relevant controls as marked on your map.

The area on the south side where the river continues from the park is out of bounds and marked so on the map. Contractors have started working in the area so please do not attempt this route.

Map Information

The map was recently updated. The scale is 1:4000 so for every centimetre on the map it represents 40 metres on the ground.
Most of the area is park land and very runnable. The long course goes into an urban area and a wooded area that is still quite runnable.

Keep It Clean campaign - Forestry Commission

Scotland

Our forests are at risk from tree pests and diseases. These can dramatically affect the health of our trees, upsetting the delicate ecosystem balance and devastating large areas of woodland.
Pests and diseases hitch a ride in mud and debris on shoes, paws and tyres, ending up in new forests. Here, they can spread rapidly in environments with no natural resilience.
