TAY at the 8 Person Relay

8 club members travelled to the Falkirk Wheel to represent Tayside Orienteers in the annual Scottish Inter-Club Relay yesterday. Matthew led off the TAY team and tagged Fran, Davie and Laura for the second leg followed by Moira, Grant and John on the third and Elaine on the final. We didn't win, but the team ran well, and agreed that it was an excellent event - and fantastic to see our new tops en masse. Special mention to Dug the mascot who made his first official appearance on club duty with his new name!

New club top

Our excellent new club top, manufactured by Siven, was launched at last week's social. If you didn't order one, but would like to, contact Elaine Gillies with your details, as another order will be going in very soon (and if you miss that one, don't worry - we hope to place another order later in the year or whenever demand is sufficient). For sizing information, our neighbouring club BASOC have a useful page to help you decide which size to go for.

Entries are open for Edinburgh Southern OC's Scottish O League Race at Craig a'Barns on Sunday 14th September. This is one week before our own event at Loch Ordie on the 21st. A great chance to experience high quality orienteering on Tayside on consecutive weekends!

Club AGM and Social, Wednesday 22 October

This year's club Annual General Meeting will be held on the evening of Wednesday October 22nd, once again at the Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS) office in Perth. Details including times are still to be confirmed, but expect that it'll follow a similar format to previous years - bring some food for a communal buffet before we start the AGM.

Every club member is invited - hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Club social - a brief review

Thankyou to everyone who came to today's social at Birnam Arts Centre - and thankyou especially to our guest of honour Roger Scrutton, president of SOA. Thankyou also to Moira and Elaine for organising the day, to Jane and Bill for their contributions, and to John A for facilitating access to the Arts Centre. Here's a brief review of the day...

Grant Carstairs selected as reserve for Home Internationals

Congratulations to club member Grant Carstairs on his selection as reserve for the Scotland M60 team for the Veterans Home Internationals. The Scotland team will take on the other Home Nations in the Forest of Dean in September. The full Scotland team was announced today.

All that hill running has definitely paid off for Grant!

TAY Long-O Postponed

New date planned for 2015

Regrettably, due to organisational difficulties we have decided to postpone this year's planned Long Orienteering event and will host it at a new date to be confirmed in 2015. We're very sorry for any inconvenience this causes those of you who'd planned to attend - but we have some great courses planned and we look forward to sharing them with you next year.

Tayside Orienteers at the Scottish Championships 2014

The Scottish Championships took its traditional place over the late May Bank Holiday weekend, and this year were held on TAY territory, with the individual race at Dalnamein, an area of forest and heather moorland beside the A9 north of Calvine, and the relay race at Newtyle Hill near Dunkeld. There were some excellent results from club members, including top-3 performances in the Individual race from Liz Fraser (2nd, W70S) and Fran Loots (3rd, W55L) and in the Relay race from Fran, Grant Carstairs and Elaine Gillies.
