Club AGM and Social, Wednesday 22 October

This year's club Annual General Meeting will be held on the evening of Wednesday October 22nd, once again at the Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS) office in Perth. Details including times are still to be confirmed, but expect that it'll follow a similar format to previous years - bring some food for a communal buffet before we start the AGM.

Every club member is invited - hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Club social - a brief review

Thankyou to everyone who came to today's social at Birnam Arts Centre - and thankyou especially to our guest of honour Roger Scrutton, president of SOA. Thankyou also to Moira and Elaine for organising the day, to Jane and Bill for their contributions, and to John A for facilitating access to the Arts Centre. Here's a brief review of the day...

Entries now open for SoSOL1 at Loch Ordie in September

Online entries are now open for our upcoming South of Scotland League event at Loch Ordie on September 21st. A chance to return for the first time since the Scottish 6 Days 2009 to a technically challenging area of open moorland near Dunkeld.

Grant Carstairs selected as reserve for Home Internationals

Congratulations to club member Grant Carstairs on his selection as reserve for the Scotland M60 team for the Veterans Home Internationals. The Scotland team will take on the other Home Nations in the Forest of Dean in September. The full Scotland team was announced today.

All that hill running has definitely paid off for Grant!

TAY Long-O Postponed

New date planned for 2015

Regrettably, due to organisational difficulties we have decided to postpone this year's planned Long Orienteering event and will host it at a new date to be confirmed in 2015. We're very sorry for any inconvenience this causes those of you who'd planned to attend - but we have some great courses planned and we look forward to sharing them with you next year.

Tayside Orienteers at the Scottish Championships 2014

The Scottish Championships took its traditional place over the late May Bank Holiday weekend, and this year were held on TAY territory, with the individual race at Dalnamein, an area of forest and heather moorland beside the A9 north of Calvine, and the relay race at Newtyle Hill near Dunkeld. There were some excellent results from club members, including top-3 performances in the Individual race from Liz Fraser (2nd, W70S) and Fran Loots (3rd, W55L) and in the Relay race from Fran, Grant Carstairs and Elaine Gillies.

Perth and Kinross Primary Schools Championships 2014 - The Final!

Milnathort's Team 1 are the champions!

Congratulations to Team 1 - Sarah, Ailsa and Nikola - from Milnathort, who won the 2014 Perth and Kinross Primary Schools Championships Final today at Scone Palace. They put in a fantastic time to come well clear of Oozema Kappa from St Dominics, in 2nd place - both teams scoring a maximum 540 points. In 3rd were Zombies on the Run from the Royal School of Dunkeld, with Thunderbirds from Auchterarder and Chocaholics 2 from Luncarty making up the top 5. Altogether, there were 105 teams of 3 today - well done to every single one of you for your efforts!

Results from the 2014 Primary Schools Final are now available. These have been updated to correct a timing error from earlier today.

Culteuchar - a TAY review

Thankyou so much to Elaine, Dave P and everyone from the club and beyond who pitched in to make today's South of Scotland League (SoSOL) Event at Culteuchar such a success - your efforts are all hugely appreciated!

Even with the effort of hosting the event, there were some very impressive results from club members, with quite possibly a record number of top-10 places for Tay members in a SoSOL event. Pride of place goes to course winners Robert Jenkins and Felicity Martin. Robert had a 3 minute win on Light Green while Felicity won Short Green...by all of a single second.

Club Social, Saturday August 16th

We're putting on a get-together for all club members at Birnam Arts Centre - good chat and good food for definite; opportunities for walking or running beforehand! All club members are invited; and if you'd like to bring  friends who might be interested in orienteering they are very welcome.

August social - more details.
